Couple celebrates their half-century mark
Half a century later and they are still on their journey together
The love is still blooming for Tony (71) and Charlotte (74) Sharp, who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on 11 October.
Tony met Charlotte when she was a teacher at a convent school just outside Lenasia, and after a while they started their journey together.
These two “totally different people” are still continuing their journey after so many years, and their secret is commitment. “What caused us to stand together was that even through the rough times we worked through, and we were able to do so,” said Tony.
The memories they both share and still remember of their time together include: “I used to take my father’s car to pick her up and take her to the drive-in. I usually stopped and picked a flower for her,” said Tony. And from Charlotte: “I still remember this one day, it was holidays and I told him that I was going to visit my parents in Durban for the three weeks. I left on the Friday, and the next day he was in front of our house.”
To stay married and committed for half a century is a special thing, and the advice this couple gives is simple: “Once you have made that commitment to someone, try your best to stand together and work it out.”
