Fun and games for Floroma Old Age Home

Floroma spread joy among their residents and visitors with a fun-filled fete.

Most of South Africa reserved Saturday, 2 November for the final match of the Rugby World Cup. England and South Africa were set to face-off at 11am and many refused to miss it. Floroma Old Age Home, however, spent their Saturday morning laughing, eating, and playing games.

Their fete was held in the Chapel of the home and while it was small in size, it was huge in atmosphere. Smiling faces were visible throughout as people stuffed their faces with pancakes, curry, and sweet treats. The jumble sale did not disappoint and beautiful items were on sale at the stalls.

The curry stall was a massive hit; by 10am the three ladies running the stall were already worried they would run out of stock. The pancake and dessert stalls were just as popular; the sweet lovers flocking around the tables with huge smiles on their faces, waiting excitedly for their serving of sugar.

People who attended could also try their luck at winning amazing prizes from the game table. For R5, the attendees could pick a random, colourful drawer which had been creatively made with matchboxes. Each drawer had a number hidden inside, which was then matched to one of the prizes on the table that had also been numbered. Winners took home prizes ranging from sweets and bowls to headphones and photo frames.

One extremely lucky and happy winner was Sophie Tlotleng. Her joy was incomparable after winning so many prizes that she needed to carry them out in a box.

The fete was held to raise money for some much-needed additions to the home, such as improved security, JoJo water tanks, and generators. As far as fundraisers go, this fete had all the characteristics of a successful and enjoyable event.
