The word of the day for 11 November is: risk.
The word ‘risk’ has several definitions, one of them being the possibility that something unpleasant or unwelcome will happen.
The potential risks of a situation tend to hold people back from doing what they want to do or even need to do.
Without overcoming the fear of risks, we will never do anything. Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100 per cent of the shots you don’t take.”
If we don’t try because we are afraid of the risks involved, or of failing, or of being wrong, then we will never discover, achieve, or succeed.
TS Eliot said, “Only those who will risk going out too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
It is better to try and fail than to not try at all. Paulo Coelho said that it is better to cross the line and suffer the consequences than to stare at the line for the rest of your life and suffer nothingness.
If we do not take the risk because we are afraid of the outcome, we will never be happy.
“Take risks; if you win, you will be happy and if you lose, you will be wise.” – Author unknown.
