Honeydew Police boss’ festive message
'On behalf of the station management and personnel of the station, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all community members a safe, joyous and peaceful festive season.'
The Honeydew Police Station commander, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj has encouraged the public to act responsibly this festive season as he conveyed his warm wishes to everyone.
“On behalf of the station management and personnel of the station, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all community members a safe, joyous and peaceful festive season.
“The community can rest assured that the police and other law enforcement partners will be out in full force to ensure that everyone around Honeydew policing precinct feels safe,” he assured, explaining that they had already commenced with their festive season operations which have recorded a number of impressive successes so far.
Among the arrests made were for house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing in drugs, dealing in dagga, assaults, undocumented persons, illegal shebeens, and other serious crimes, according to Maharaj.
“Our community has suffered great losses in terms of their beloved friends and family members, as well as property, owing to crimes such as murder, house robbery, business robbery, hijacking, burglaries, accidents, motor vehicle theft and fraud. Your pain is our pain.
“We continue to emphasise the importance of community residents partnering with the police in the fight against crime. We can do better with your support and cooperation.
“Ongoing support and joint operations with our Community Policing Forums, sub-structures, business community, neighbourhood watches, security companies and other government departments have had a positive impact. We appreciate you all,” the Brigadier said.
He continued by urging the community to protect the children, elderly and people living with disabilities throughout this excitement-fuelled season.
“Let us keep taking full responsibility for our surroundings. Let’s drink responsibly and avoid drinking at strange places. Drinking and driving is a crime and the police will act accordingly,” he warned.
He further warned residents to not leave their valuables lying around in the car, and make sure they close windows and never accept help from strangers at an ATM.
Lastly, Maharaj urged residents to contact the station on 011 801 8614 (available 24 hours) or Relief commander on 082 337 0925; Ops room on 082 337 1436 or 10 111 for any crime-related incidents in the area.
