Another heist in the same area

The robbers reportedly fled the scene and people from surrounding informal settlements were looting and fighting over the content of the vehicle.

Traffic on Malibongwe Drive near Cosmo City had to be redirected on Monday, 20 January when the second heist within three months occurred in the same area.

It is alleged that shots were heard, followed by an explosion. When response services arrived at the scene they found a light motor vehicle and an armoured vehicle on fire.

The robbers reportedly fled the scene and people from surrounding informal settlements were looting and fighting over the content of the vehicle.

An onlooker reported that about seven robbers had fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger. They were driving on the R114 towards Diepsloot.

Two male guards were found in a stable condition close to the scene. They were treated prior to being transported to the hospital by private ambulance for further assessment.

ER24’s Ross Campbell said that firefighters from the Lanseria Fire Department were already tackling the blaze when they and Cosmo City Fire arrived on the scene at 6.45pm.

There is no information available as to whether any money was stolen, and the circumstances leading up to the incident are being investigated by the relevant authorities.
