Talented young singer needs funds

Storm was also selected for the National Youth Choir, which she had to decline due to a lack of funds.

For the fourth year in a row the talented 11-year-old Storm Venter from Roodepoort has been chosen to be part of the Cantare Children’s Choir.

She is one of 50 children out of over 200 Cantare children chosen to represent her school, Monument Primary, her province and her country at the Festalonia in Italy (Sun of Italy) Choir Competition in June 2020.

This is an extremely prestigious competition, and only a selected few choirs from South Africa have been chosen to compete.

At the World Choir Games in 2018, the Cantare Children’s Choir received a silver and bronze medal in their two categories.

As a soloist, Storm has excelled in singing and participated in both the Randfontein Arts and Culture Association (RACA) Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod, where she got a Platinum Accolade and a Diploma Accolade (National Eisteddfod).

Storm was also selected for the National Youth Choir, which she had to decline due to a lack of funds. She would have been the youngest person ever to join such a prestigious choir.

Her father, Sean Venter is asking the community for assistance in raising the much-needed funds for the Italy tour.

Sean said, “I have teamed up with three other parents to raise the funds and have raised a small portion of what is still needed. We still need about R17 000 per child, just to cover the costs of flights and accommodation.

“This amount needs to be paid by the end of January 2020. The other costs that remain are spending money, baggage and uniforms. We have been seen on the corner of Sonop Street and Ontdekkers Road doing a blik skud to raise funds.”

Members of the community who wish to donate or need further information about the Cantare Children’s Choir, or the tour, can feel free to contact Sean on 061 543 9182 or Ida Strydom on 073 232 0941. All funds can be paid directly to the choir.
