Baboon safe and sound during lockdown
CLAW urged the community once again not to feel threatened by or worried about the baboon as it is currently safe and sound.
Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) has confirmed that the wild baboon that has been roaming the suburbs of the West Rand is still in the area, and is enjoying the peace that comes with humans being less active.
The national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic is something positive for the wild animal that has been in area for quite a while, trying desperately to avoid humans.
“We have set up a modified trap for him as we are doing our best to make sure that he is captured and taken to an environment that will suit his wild nature,” said Cora Bailey from CLAW.
CLAW urged the community once again not to feel threatened by or worried about the baboon as it is currently safe and sound.
CLAW also confirmed that the baboon has not harmed anyone and it will not do so in the future; people should just stay out of its way like it is trying to do.
Residents have spotted the baboon in different areas of the West Rand and once in a yard on Merlot Close, Wilgeheuwel. CLAW was contacted in several cases.
Members of the public are advised not to call CLAW but to send them a WhatsApp on 076 850 4466 as the veterinary clinic staff is too busy to answer calls.
