A home in a quiet street just a stone’s throw from Florida Lake was the scene of a barbaric attack on two defenceless victims on Tuesday morning, 7 July.

Russel Meiring, Corporate Communications Officer for ER24, confirmed what his paramedics found on scene, stating, “Medics found the two victims inside the residence. Both were in a critical condition after a group of unknown men had hit them in the face with shovels several times. Local authorities were on scene for further investigation.”

Police have yet to comment but Florida Community Policing Forum (FCPF) members were also on scene.

“There is no other information about the suspects,” said FCPF chairperson Prashan Sukhu. “The FCPF urges the community to ensure that their security cameras are operational so leads from such incidents can be found. We, the FCPF, pray for strength and endurance for the family, and the recovery of both victims,” he continued.

FCPF confirmed that the suspects made away with jewellery and other valuables, but the exact extent of the house robbery has yet to be confirmed as police have not compiled an official statement yet.

More information on the incident will be shared when it is forthcoming.
