Security officers help fight property fire

Upon arrival, the manager found the residents dousing the flames in the thatched roof of the lapa with buckets and hose pipes

Local security provider BCI Security has again gone beyond the call of duty and saved a property that had caught fire in Strubens Valley on Saturday, 25 July.

According to BCI Security, they received a WhatsApp message from a client informing them about a possible fire on the property on the corner of Witwatersrand and Fredenharry Roads.

“The manager informed the control room so that vehicles could be dispatched. A junior operations manager and another manager went out to the scene,” the statement read.

Upon arrival, the manager found the residents dousing the flames in the thatched roof of the lapa with buckets and hose pipes. The BCI members joined in and assisted while waiting for the Fire Department to respond.

According to BCI Security, Engine 20 from City of Johannesburg EMS arrived about 15 minutes after the initial call.

It is reported that the firefighters quickly managed to extinguish the blaze, which caused minimal damage to the structure; however, most of the thatching had to be removed to make sure that the fire was out completely.No injuries were reported during this unfortunate incident.
