G4S CIT van targeted by robbers at Pick n Pay Witpoortjie

Several attempts to contact Roodepoort Police Station for comment were not successful and as soon as a response is obtained an update will follow

On Friday, 14 August gun-wielding thugs attacked a money truck that was standing at the Witpoortjie Pick n Pay and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

This follows an unsuccessful CIT heist attempt at the intersection of Ontdekkers and CR Swart Roads yesterday evening, 13 August.

The centre guards ran in the opposite direction for cover as the unthinkable was now rolling out in front of their shocked eyes.

According to an onlooker that managed to take cover behind his car, he saw one of the suspects approaching from the direction of Blue Bottle liquor store carrying a firearm and made his way to the money truck.

It is alleged that the guards were busy with a deposit when four armed men fired shots at the armoured vehicle targeting the tyres before they made their getaway in a silver Audi A3 and a white SUV.

“I was busy drawing money out of the ATM when I heard gunshots, I immediately took cover and left everything in the machine, luckily I had not entered my pin number,” said an eye witness Thomas Siwela.

Several attempts to contact Roodepoort Police Station for comment were not successful and as soon as a response is obtained an update will follow.
