Alert: Beware of smash-and-grabs on Gordon Road off-ramp

The Gordon Road bridge is an infamous hot spot for smash-and-grabs, especially during peak hour traffic.

BCI Security has cautioned motorists to be wary of smash-and-grab perpetrators along the Gordon Road off-ramp in Florida Glen.

This after an employee of the company witnessed the incident at 7.30am on 20 August at the off-ramp on Gordon Road coming from the N1 northerly direction.

“The suspect was fairly tall and was dressed in black. It looked like his one hand was wrapped in something as he used that to smash the passenger side front window,” Corinda Loots, the company’s director described the suspect.

“The member of the sales team chased the suspect down the embankment towards the highway on foot but when he got to the bottom, the suspect was gone. It’s possible that a vehicle had been waiting for him,” she speculated.

“The BCI Ops Manager was notified of the incident and also went out to the scene. The woman who was involved in the smash-and-grab was in shock, so ER24 was contacted to come out and assess her. The left front passenger window was completely smashed out. The suspect managed to get away with one cellphone,” Corinda explained.

She warned that the Gordon Road bridge is an infamous hot spot for smash-and-grabs, especially during peak hour traffic.

“We urge the public to please be vigilant and alert when driving on Gordon Road. Do not leave any valuable items in plain sight, especially cellphones. Put handbags, laptops and other items in the boot. Cellphones must be kept out of sight completely, and do not use the phone when stopping at an intersection,” she advised.

“Don’t give these criminals the opportunity to make you a victim,” Corinda concluded.
