A wannabe criminal was proved to be an amateur thief after he was caught close to the crime scene.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, 24 August because he ran out of luck after attempting to rob a patron at a local shopping centre.
BCI Security reported that at about 10am a member from the BCI Tactical Response Team (K1) was driving near Tamarana Complex when he noticed a man being chased by the occupants of a white bakkie running towards him.
With absolutely no knowledge of what was going on, the BCI member thought the occupants of the bakkie wanted to rob the man.

“When the wanted man got close to him he ordered him to stop so that he could find out what was going on. The bakkie stopped next to them and one of the men in the bakkie informed our officer that the man was a wanted suspect who tried to rob a lady at the Spar in Ruimsig Shopping Centre,” the report read.
While still unconvinced by the story, he called for backup and two other units arrived. The suspect was taken back to the Spar for verification, and indeed a female victim was located and confirmed the incident.
The report further suggested that the control room contacted Honeydew Police Station whose officers came out to the scene to detain the suspect.
