Already charged with common assault, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted kidnapping, the court heard that Slamang was, in fact, a wanted suspect in a separate theft incident for which the court issued a warrant back in October 2018. The warrant of arrest was effected that morning and Slamang made a separate appearance, which was postponed to 18 September as he sought legal aid.
It was also revealed that Slamang has three previous convictions to his name, meaning the State reiterated the intentions expressed by the family of the accused to oppose bail. Sensing the possibility for dramatic viewing, the media filed an application to film proceedings, which the court is considering.

“These developments mean that Slamang is now facing Schedule 5 offences,” stated National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane. At his appearance on 18 September, the matter was postponed again and he will be remanded in custody until his next appearance scheduled for 15 October.
