Man shot in alleged taxi-violence incident

Roodepoort Police have yet to comment on the issue but were on scene

Problems with the commuter railway network may be placing extra strain on the taxi industry as organisations compete for the overflow of passengers.

A man was killed in Roodepoort North yesterday morning, 18 September, when another motorist opened fire on his vehicle in a drive-by shooting on Fifth Avenue. The exact details of the incident are still unknown but paramedics who arrived on scene shortly after 9am found the authorities attending to the victim’s vehicle that had rolled onto its roof.

“A man was found lying trapped inside the car. Medics assessed him and found that he had sustained numerous gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, he was declared dead,” stated ER24 Communications Officer, Russel Meiring.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggested the man was the target of an alleged mob-style attack.

Roodepoort Police have yet to comment on the issue but were on scene. Additional information will be shared once it is forthcoming.
