Man hacked to death over shack argument

“The 24-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder, while the accomplice managed to flee and remains at large”

An accomplice to a murder in Zandspruit is currently being sought by Honeydew Police. The suspected accomplice managed to flee when police came looking for them following the murder of a 51-year-old man.

The main suspect, 24, was arrested on 21 September after allegedly hacking a 51-year-old victim to death with the assistance of the friend.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, the brutal attack was over a shack that had been put up.

“The 51-year-old victim went to his new shack in Zandspruit to enquire as to why the suspect was erecting a shack on his space,” he said.

“An argument ensued and the suspect together with an accomplice hacked the victim to death,” Muthan explained.

He added that a thorough investigation was conducted by Captains J Mokobi and JM Kganyajo, which prompted the arrest.

“The 24-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder, while the accomplice managed to flee and remains at large,” he said.

He has since appeared in court facing charges of murder.

“Management has praised the officers for their quick response and sterling efforts to arrest the suspect,” Muthan concluded.
