Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan has confirmed the arrest of one suspect linked to courier-vehicle robberies on Monday, 19 October in the Strubens Valley area.
It is understood that the suspect’s vehicle was picked up on surveillance cameras and pursued by private security and the police.
Robbing courier vehicles has been quite a growing trend in the area, with the Northsider reporting on two cases in a space of two months.
Last month, on 9 September, a courier bakkie was emptied of its cellphone parcels after it was cornered by armed thugs in Radiokop.
While this matter was under investigation, footage of yet another armed robbery (but controversial this time) involving a courier vehicle emerged on social media on 15 October in Ruimsig. The suspects fled with big boxes after accosting the driver at gunpoint.
The modus operandi seem to be that these vehicles are followed and intercepted while entering a property to do deliveries.
Muthan said this matter and others are still under investigation.
