Curro Wilgeheuwel cricket to benefit from former SA coach

The former South African cricketer was an all-rounder who played 23 one-day internationals for South Africa in the 1990s.

On Saturday, 24 October, Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel Independent School announced on their Facebook page the appointment of Eric Simons as the coaching partner to upskill the Curro group of schools’ cricket coaches.

The former South African cricketer was an all-rounder who played 23 one-day internationals for South Africa in the 1990s.

He later coached the national team for two years but he was replaced by Ray Jennings in 2004.

According to the Curro Sport Facebook page, this partnership ties in with Curro’s vision to uplift sport within the group, and sees this as an opportunity to create developmental pathways, coaching progressions and training drills to further develop coaches.

The experienced coach will use the knowledge gained during the nationwide tour of Curro schools to create a number of instructional videos and documents for Curro’s cricket coaches.

These will be accessible on the sports library platform and presented to cricket coaching groups via collaboration software.

“We as coaches never really stop learning and it has been a privileged journey for me to travel around the world and learn, as I interact with some of the best coaches and players in the world.

“Knowledge is of no use if it is not shared, and I hope to bring some of what I have learned to the Curro cricket family.

“I look forward to being involved with a forward-thinking organisation like Curro, where the attitude of learning and striving to be the best is a part of its DNA,” said Eric.

He will be responsible for Microsoft Teams sessions with key coaches at schools to conduct research into current structures.

He will also provide philosophy for cricket development at Curro schools and conduct coaching conferences in all major areas together with their local coaches.
