City Power working to restore power to Florida Lake, Hamberg and Georgina South

Electricity in these areas went out at about 10.30pm last night as a result of cable theft on Main Reef Road

At approximately 1.45pm this afternoon, 30 October, City Power notified residents that technicians were attending to a power outage that is currently affecting the areas of Florida Lake, Hamberg and Georgina South.

Electricity in these areas went out at about 10.30pm last night as a result of cable theft on Main Reef Road. In addition to this, the City Power statement said that two out of the three feeder cables that supply the areas failed and they have therefore been unable to restore power to the whole area.

Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson, stated that the feeder cable faults have been located and a contractor has been appointed. He further stated that it took some time to obtain the emergency wayleaves because the faults are in the road and excavations are under way.

While no specific estimated time of restoration (ETR) has been provided, Mangena apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents that City Power is doing all they can in an attempt to have the power back on by late this evening.

Residents are encouraged to follow the City Power Twitter page @CityPowerJhb for regular updates on the situation.
