Mrs SA finalist schools women on social media ins and outs

Local Mrs SA finalist Marika Opperman is one individual who deserves a pat on the back for all her good deeds in 2020.

After the modelling competition, Marika hit the ground running with her charity events in support of the Women4Women foundation.

Having recently hosted her first charity fundraiser at Alice Art Gallery, featuring some big names in the entertainment and beauty industry, she moved on to raise more funds.

On Thursday, 10 December, she hosted a Social Media Workshop (SMW) for girls and women between the ages of 13 and 40 at Smack Pizza in Randpark Ridge.

“The idea to host an SMW originated from numerous requests from friends and followers over the past year, ranging from cyberbullying to having brands notice them due to increased following, and building their own profiles and brands,” Marika explained the purpose of the event.
The event covered the following topics: Social media safety; How to create content; How to establish your brand; How to tag and mention; Practise perfect selfies; and Attracting brands.

She put more emphasis on social media safety as it is evidently needed in this era. “All of us are on social media in some shape or form, but how do we protect ourselves? I always say ‘safety first’ as it is so true in this day and age,” she said.

One of the SMW attendees, Sasha Taylor (co-owner of Ace Models, West Rand) said, “I absolutely loved the social media workshop. The insight and tips Marika gave were extremely helpful to grow one’s social media following, and even to grow one’s personal brand. The highlight was what she taught us about working with different brands, not to mention all the fun we had taking tons of content pictures.”
