The mouth waters at the thought of hot, fresh and flavourful pizza speeding towards one’s front door. A group of overly eager men could not contain their cravings, hijacking a smartly dressed pizza delivery man at gunpoint on 14 January.
Community safety organisation, ICE, assisted in retrieving the stolen scooter, with one of their members beginning the chase after witnessing the incident. A 21-year-old ICE member, who prefers not to be named, was on his way to a friend’s house around 7pm when he noticed a pizza delivery driver being harrassed by men in a gold Mazda hatchback.

The men in the gold vehicle pointed a gun at the scooter driver as a passenger in the car got out and commandeered the scooter. The armed men drove towards Ontdekkers Road but the brave ICE member followed the scooter through the residential streets around Laerskool Florida and down towards Goldman Street. “We followed him closely and after having fallen over a few times, he got up and ran across Goldman Street and then over the train tracks,” said the ICE member.

Fellow ICE members continued the search but were unable to find the would-be pizza thief. The branch of the suit and bow tie pizza franchise confirmed that the driver was uninjured but was robbed of his cellphone and all cash he was carrying. A case has not been opened at Florida Police yet, but anyone who knows the whereabouts of the gold Mazda 3 or the suspect in the video is asked to please call Florida Police immediately.
