On 10 and 13 January the Northsider published articles about two students from the Ruimsig-based IIE MSA (formally known as Monash University) who are in financial difficulties and were finding themselves owing the institution fees.
Kellner Mashoyane’s academic record is impressive and a true reflection of determination and hard work; however, he owes the University R87 198.17.

He has lost his scholarship due to Covid-19 and therefore if the account is not settled he will sadly not be able to continue his studies this year.

Lerato currently lives with her aunt who is a domestic worker and a single mother, and she tries to assist her where she can.

After reading the article on Lerato, Communications Manager at IIE Varsity College and IIE MSA, Sané Ndlovu contacted the Northsider and confirmed that Lerato is one of their students.
“I came across the article that was written about Lerato Matlanyane who is one of our students.
“Lerato did not approach us about her financial situation; had she done so we would have presented her with many options that are available to assist.
“I think it may be helpful to talk about these financing options and the assistance that is available, so that any other student or parent that is struggling can receive assistance,” explained Sané.
IIE Varsity College and IIE MSA confirmed that they have the following bursaries on offer:
• Sibling bursary
• Student leadership award – head prefect
• Student leadership award – deputy head prefect
• Academic excellence award – current student
• Academic excellence award – new student
IIE MSA has also made available a Covid-19 Financial Assistance Fund and current students/ account payers can apply should they have been severely affected by the pandemic.
“Our fees structure is also highly flexible, with several different payment options and terms. Please find the link hereunder: https://www.iiemsa.co.za/fees/about-fees/.
“We also encourage our fee payers to engage with us should they have difficulty meeting their obligations, and we can structure new payment plans within an adjusted time period,” said Sané.
