JMPD impounds lawless taxis on Hendrik Potgieter Road

Although it has been arranged for Pikitup to clean the surrounding area, Sonja also suggested that they need to get all entities to work together to improve the situation.

Following complaints about lawlessness by taxi operators outside Makro on Hendrik Potgieter Road, the Ward 97 councillor reported that three taxis got impounded on Wednesday, 20 January.

“Following residents’ complaints about the Makro intersection on Hendrik Potgieter, three taxis were impounded by JMPD Recovery Unit,” she said.

These taxi operators who use this busy intersection as an informal taxi rank, have been warned on a number of occasions by law enforcement to refrain from blocking traffic while queuing to load passengers.

Ward 85 councillor Sonja Meyer praised the Johannesburg Metro Police Department for dealing with lawlessness at the informal rank and suggested they conduct regular visits to the site to restore order.

Although it has been arranged for Pikitup to clean the surrounding area, Sonja also suggested that they need to get all entities to work together to improve the situation.
