‘We still think of him every day”

'It has been seven months since his passing, and his absence has been felt with so much heartache and longing.'

Covid-19 has been a part of South Africans’ lives since March last year. During this time, the numbers and statistics were just that but, as the second wave of infections hit, these quickly changed into names and faces we know, affecting all of us in one way or another.

The Gouws family was torn apart when, on 22 July 2020, they received the devastating news that their father, husband and dear friend had lost his Covid-19 battle.

The family sent in the following tribute to Andrew:

On the 22 July 2020, Andrew Gouws, 66, was taken from his family, friends and colleagues due to Covid-19. Andrew was well-loved by so many people; never a moment was too difficult for Andrew to lend a helping hand to those in need.

It has been seven months since his passing, and his absence has been felt with so much heartache and longing.

Andrew and his wife, Jeanette both contracted Covid -19, and Jeanette was fortunate to survive this terrible illness.

Andrew has been survived by Jeanette, his two daughters Tanya and Jacqueline, his two stepsons Herman and Morné, his mother Maud, 88, brother Gerald and grandchildren.

We feel the pain of knowing that we will never be able to just say hello again, but look forward to meeting up with him again one day when life is no more. We think of all those who have experienced the same pain during these horrible times.
