Although jaywalking may not be regarded as a serious criminal offence in South Africa, police still have the right to stop and search anyone whom they deem suspicious.
Well, the gut feeling of members of the Honeydew Police was right when they stopped and searched a pedestrian who happened to be in possession of a collection of cellphones in the policing precinct on Tuesday, 23 February.
After being unable to provide the necessary proof of ownership of the cellphones, the man was arrested on suspicion of robbed or stolen property, explained Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
