Hijacked victim found unharmed

The report indicated that the victim had been hijacked near Fairland close to Hendrik Potgieter Road.

Law-enforcement agencies in Roodepoort hardly had any rest on Tuesday night, 2 March as they searched for a civilian who had been hijacked.

BCI Security media liaison Quinton Young said that at about 10.26pm a message about the hijacking was received from a WhatsApp group.

The report indicated that the victim had been hijacked near Fairland close to Hendrik Potgieter Road.

“His vehicle was recovered in Roodepoort, but there was no trace of him near the area,” he said.

He added that an extensive search was initiated by members of the police and various other agencies to locate him.

“The victim’s phone was traced to Soweto and members of the police, JMPD, Cartrack, BCI and other role players searched the area,” he said.

While the search was being conducted, details of a suspect vehicle were obtained from members of the public in the area, and the search was intensified.

“Just after 1am a family member received a phone call from the victim. Information about the location was handed over to the police and other members in Florida. BCI Security, Cartrack, Police, JMPD, CPF and various other members located the victim who thankfully was unharmed,” he concluded.
