Fun celebrations in the pool

The fun day was held as both a fundraiser and a celebration of the opening of the swim school's newest branch in Florida.

The scorching heat of Saturday, 13 March was barely noticeable to anyone who attended the Quickstrokes Swim School Family Fun Day.

The fun day was held as both a fundraiser and a celebration of the opening of the swim school’s newest branch in Florida. The Quickstrokes founder, Candice Brown, invited community members to join in on the fun and hopefully raise funds to enclose the swimming pool on the property. While there is a roof with a heating system installed that covers the swimming pool, Candice is hoping to enclose the area around the pool to make lessons during the winter months easier, and to allow for parents to have a comfortable place to sit while their child learns to swim.

Just over 100 people attended the event and while the adults enjoyed the stalls and food stand, the children laughed their hearts out while on the jumping castle and shooting down the water slide. The pool was also open for on-the-spot swimming lessons and to help the attendees cool off because of the blaring sun on the day. Two of the Quickstrokes swimming instructors were in the pool for the day, making sure that all the children were safe.

While Candice said the fun day unfortunately did not meet their fundraising goal, it was still an extremely successful day and the school is now one step closer to closing off the pool area. She hopes that the enclosure will be up by the end of April. “Thank you to everyone who came out. We appreciate all the support we received,” she concluded.
