Age might be against them but the little ones of Happy Feet Nursery School in Witpoortjie are now more knowledgeable about basic safety precautions.
This was all thanks to the BCI Security K9 Unit in partnership with ER24 who hosted a Kiddies Show for the little ones – from the youngest to those aged five on 16 March.
BCI owner Corinda Loots brought along her dedicated K9 handlers, Lee and Elias, to put on a stellar show for the children.
The team utilised Peanut, a Cocker Spaniel that’s an infamous narcotics detection K9, and Bakwena, the Belgian Malinois whose name translates to Crocodile from his native tongue of Sotho. Bakwena is also known for his big bite, but according to Corinda, “He is a softy and was used to show the youngsters his agility skills”.

Adding a little fun into the mix, Corinda educated the learners about stranger danger, discouraging the children to take sweets from strangers and talk to them.
With hand gestures she taught the youngsters how to remember the emergency number, 10111, by using the fingers on their one hand.
ER24’s Super Medic, Marga Scheepers, who was part of the show as she assisted a ‘patient’ who had been taken down by Bakwena, taught the children about the importance of personal hygiene and first aid.
The session concluded with the kiddies taking turns to sit in the mini BCI Security Jeep with a cuddly teddy for some camera time.
