Video: Provincial Police Commissioner denounces vandalising of state assets

This came after Muldersdrift Police attended to a complaint of disturbance of public peace at the Video informal settlement; however, the police officers were attacked and a police van was torched.

On Thursday, 8 April, the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela appealed to communities to refrain from vandalising state assets such as police vans.

This came after Muldersdrift Police attended to a complaint of disturbance of public peace at the Video informal settlement; however, the police officers were attacked and a police van was torched.

The officers sought cover in a nearby shack as the group pelted them with objects while also threatening to kill them.

The situation was brought under control when the Public Order Police (POPS) officers arrived on the scene.

On Saturday, 4 April Charles Mbewe and his team called Gijima Tsosti, who carry out security patrols in the Video informal settlement, assisted the police in locating suspects who were involved in torching the police vehicle.

The team located one suspect in Krugersdorp and handed him over to the Muldersdrift Police for questioning.
