Pedestrian left seriously injured after being struck by car
While the incident was initially characterised as a hit and run, it is alleged the driver of the vehicle returned to the scene.
There is little that compares to the frustration of navigating city roads. If you are not avoiding craterous potholes, you are dodging pedestrians, cyclists and careless drivers.
There is no time of the day more frustrating for motorists and pedestrians than peak hour traffic; everyone is in a rush and carelessness is rampant. Shortly before 7am this morning (12 April) , an unknown man was struck by a light motor vehicle on the corner of 12th Street and Ontdekkers Road in Delarey.
Responders from Suburban Control Centre’s security team (SCP) were first on scene where, according to SCP spokesperson Clive Maher, they found the man lying unconscious with his pants around his ankles. SCP responders did what they could to stabilise the victim until emergency services arrived a few minutes later.
While ER24 paramedics assessed the man, it was discovered that he had sustained serious injuries and he was subsequently transported to Helen Joseph Hospital for further medical care. While the accident was initially characterised as a hit and run, ER24 spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen, stated the following, “It is understood that the person who struck the pedestrian did stop at a garage close by before returning to the scene”.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
