VIDEO: A dedication walk for Ward 89 GBV survivors

Councillor Geoffrey Makhubo, Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, will be joining the dedication walk as a special guest.

Rape survivor and activist, Leilani Kuter is no stranger to walking long gruelling distances in the name of abused women who have been left with the emotional scars of gender-based violence.

On Saturday, 17 April, Councillor Amelia Bester and founder of the Yellow For Survivors NGO, Leilani Kuter, will be hosting a 22km dedication walk for the Ward 89 survivors of gender-based violence.

The walk will commence at 7am in the Clearwater Mall parking lot.

All the main arteries in the Ward will be covered in the prayer walk: Christiaan de Wet Road; Ontdekkers Road; William Nicol Drive; 14th Avenue; 9th Avenue; JG Strydom Road; Jim Fouche Road; and Hendrik Potgieter Road.

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) escort will be driving behind the group of walkers to ensure their safety.

The City has launched Ithemba, a 24-hour GBV helpline and Councillor Geoffrey Makhubo, Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, will be joining the dedication walk as a special guest.
