Adopt an ass today

Rest ur Ass donkey sanctuary provides rest and relaxation to rescued donkeys.

“Rest ur Ass” means exactly that for the 93 donkeys at this sanctuary. The donkey sanctuary has locations in Zonnehoeve and Bela-Bela where residents can adopt one or more donkeys.

The adoption programme costs R150 per month, and the adopter receives a certificate after the first payment, a photo of your donkey after six months, and a cushion cover with their adopted donkey after 12 months.
Lloreen le Roux, who owns the donkey sanctuary with her husband, described it as a retirement home for the donkeys. Anyone is more than welcome to adopt their favourite “ass” but the animals do not actually leave the sanctuary. More than one person can adopt or sponsor a donkey, and contributions go towards providing vet care, blankets and dental care, among others. Adopting a donkey also includes special visits for person adopting.

The sanctuary began with Lloreen and her husband, Albert adopting three donkeys – Herbie, Eli and Simon – from the SPCA in Benoni, and all 93 donkeys have all been rescued after being abandoned in some form or another, or auctioned.

Anyone in the community can adopt a donkey if they wish to so, or send donations to loreen@resturass.co.za 011 475 5410.
