Tripped substation leaves Witpoortjie and surrounds in darkness
The central areas of Ward 71 are once again without power following a trip at the Penny Street Substation.
The central areas of Ward 71 are once again without power following a trip at the Penny Street Substation. At approximately 9.30pm last night, 22 April, Witpoortjie, Lindhaven, Princess and Grobler Park were in darkness, and while the outage was resolved, the power tripped again early this morning.
Technicians have been on site investigating the outage since 6.20am, but have unfortunately been unable to provide an estimated time of restoration (ETR) as yet. The City Power depot manager has reportedly confirmed the trip of the substation and has said repair work will begin as soon as the safety team has confirmed that it will be safe to do so.
Warnings have also been issued against the spread of false news following reports that this outage was caused by an accidental electrocution while someone was attempting to steal cables. This is not the case with the Penny Street Substation outage, but rather with a power issue that occurred in Fleurhof yesterday.
The Record will post a detailed article regarding the issues in Fleurhof, and as soon as an ETR is determined, an update will be posted with regard to the Ward 71 power issues.
