Freedom Day celebrates freedom and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections in the country, while realising the great possibilities of the bright future that beckons us.

Tuesday, 27 April saw Triple Threat Kickboxing Club based in Ruimsig host a Freedom Day Charity Boot Camp at Avianto Sports Park. They have been hosting various charity and fundraising events over the past years.

According to Triple Threat Dojo owner, Wade Rendall, the event was as a great success as between 55 and 60 people attended this boot camp.

“We raised close to R3 000 and also received a lot of food parcels, blankets, sanitary pads and toiletry donations that we will be able to distribute to the beneficiaries.

“At the boot camp we organised the attendees into groups of eight, and spread them out wide because of Covid-19.

“Most of the people in the groups were families who later joined us for breakfast at the venue. Thank you to everybody who attended,” said Wade.

Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen from Wade’s childhood area that feeds children, the poor and the homeless in Newclare, Westbury and Claremont is one of the charities that would be benefiting from the charity boot camp.

A women’s shelter in Yeoville, Frida Hartley Shelter aimed at empowering women will also benefit from the charity boot camp.
