Burglary pair arrested after being caught red-handed

Suspects aged 39 and 37 are to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court.

Many thefts happen under the cover of darkness, but one brazen pair preferred the Sunday morning sunshine.

Two suspects were arrested in Florida on Sunday, 9 May, when they were caught in the act of helping himself to some items in a Florida resident’s backyard. Just after 11am the homeowner noticed odd activity on his CCTV cameras before notifying police. “He noticed a guy jumping over the wall of the yard, then going to the store room where he took the gas cylinder and braai equipment, and passed it to his accomplice who was outside the yard,” confirmed Florida Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mpho More.

Police responded and both suspects were arrested at the scene. The pair, aged 37 and 39, have been linked with other cases, as Florida Police say they have a list of previous transgressions. They will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court in due course on charges of housebreaking and theft.
