Belly dancing show razzles and dazzles at Red Fox Market

Vendors and customers were treated to quite the unique spectacle with a belly dancing show at the Red Fox Market at Hillfox Value Centre on 8 May. The market is an opportunity to uplift small businesses in the community offering from arts and crafts, all kinds of delicacies to, of course, music.

Marketing Manager at Hillfox Value Centre, Stan Mbatha said they source vendors that make authentic products with their hands. The food court was designed for food vendors who sell authentic South African or international cuisine. “With the entertainment we branch out a bit more and bring in new and different types. We still bring in singers and musicians to come and perform; however, we are always open to having different kinds or performers or performances,” he said.

He said the belly dancing was a great way to expose the community to something different. Saturday’s entertainment was provided by Dinah-Lee Maritz from the Phoenix Fusion dance studio. Dinah-Lee, who performed four different sets, dazzled with her hypnotising moves and flamboyant costumes. She said a lot of people often have a set assumption about belly dancing, that it is sexual. “It is sensual, not sexual. People also tend to think that only certain body types can do belly dancing but that is not true. Anyone can do it. It takes practice, of course, but you should not give up.”
