One person was arrested following a complaint of a mob-justice attack in Rietvlei, Muldersdrift on 22 May. Police received a call about the attack on Plot 7 where residents had apprehended a 32-year-old man.
Muldersdrift Police communications officer, Sergeant Mulalu Ndou said the suspect was found in possession of alleged stolen cellphones. “After preliminary investigations, the suspect was put under arrest for armed robbery and rape for a case which occurred on 15 May.” The suspect is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
The Muldersdrift Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mankhontsho Setlhare welcomed the arrest of the suspect. He applauded members of the police for their quick response to the complaint. “We urge the community to report any form of gender-based violence and continue sharing information with the police at the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111.”
