Five armed men rob and flee property in Rietfontein

Just after midnight on 22 May, five armed men entered a property on Ibis Road in Rietfontein. They stole TVs, cellphones and firearms.

Sergeant Mulalo Ndou from Muldersdrift Police confirmed the armed robbery, adding that the perpetrators had not been caught, but investigations into the crime were ongoing. According to reports, the criminals gained access to the house by breaking down the kitchen door. The residents were awake at the time of the robbery, and no injuries were reported.

Muldersdrift Police have issued the following tips to prevent housebreakings, which usually occur between 6pm and 4am:

• Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving the house or going to bed.

• Leave the lights on when going away for a lengthy period.

• Never leave keys under doormats, flower pots or mailboxes.

• Trim the trees around your home to reduce cover for burglars.

• Join a neighbourhood watch group. They will assist in creating a good relationship with neighbours and reduce the risk of burglary.

• Consider installing a burglar alarm system.

• Always check that there are no suspicious vehicles or people lurking near your house or business property before you open.
