Poems to inspire others

The 21-year-old Caitlin Anne Tallack has just published her first poetry book, achieving a dream she has had since she was eight years old; and she still has her whole life in front of her.

The accessibility of poetry is continually inspiring more writers to explore the current demand for shorter, more relatable words of wisdom.

Despite being a full time engineering student with a bright professional future in front of her, 21-year-old Caitlin Anne Tallick has had a dream to be a published writer since the tender age of eight; a dream that has finally come true.

Thanks to her poetry book titled A Birthday Card in May, the world now has access to a collection of 86 beautiful, free-verse poems based on Caitlin’s personal expe-riences. She hoped to explore the love, hope, heartache, beautiful and mundane experiences that each year brings in a relatable way. The comfort she feels as a reader has always been the relief of seeing something she experienced being put into words. “Somehow, the sensation of ‘I have lived that too,’ has always been the most powerful part of art for me,” said Caitlin. She continued to explain that she grew up reading about the experiences of people a lot older than her, and wanted to reach a younger generation of readers who are going through the same things she is.

Publishing the book herself, Caitlin also invited a variety of talented photographers to contri-bute to the aesthetics of her book, which is split into 12 chapters – one for each month of the year. With her dream of 13 years finally coming to fruition, this Helderkruin-based writer said she does not have any plans for a new book yet, she just hopes that her book will inspire others to pursue their dreams, despite how intimidating they may seem. Right now, she is sitting in her contentment and enjoying the fact that she now has the freedom to choose a new dream.

If you would like to purchase this collection of emotional poems, Caitlin’s book can be bought from her website, www.abirthdaycardinmay.com.
