WATCH: Family’s home destroyed in fatal Witpoortjie fire
One fatality confirmed in Friday night blaze

A fire has torn through a house in Hendrik Boom Street leaving a community in mourning on Friday, 28 May.
Emergency personnel were alerted to the blaze around 8.20pm with responders arriving on the scene shortly afterward.
Emergency Control South Africa (ECSA) were the first responders on the scene equipped to begin fighting the now raging house fire, with Mogale City and City of Johannesburg members following shortly after.
Upon arriving at the scene, ECSA members discovered that the roof of the home had already partially collapsed. Together with the other firefighting crews, they managed to extinguish the fire in roughly an hour, yet sadly the structure was completely gutted.

Details on the cause of the fire have yet to be confirmed but the relevant authorities were on scene and investigations are underway.
Tragically, there has been one confirmed fatality but rumors of a second appear to be untrue at this stage.

More details on the incident will be shared when they are forthcoming.
