A video has been circulating on the Little Falls community group showing shoppers being harassed and robbed at the Lifestyle Crossing shopping centre. The CCTV footage shows two separate incidents where shoppers are confronted by a group of criminals just after getting out of their vehicles or before entering the store.
The MO seems to be to catch their victim while they are still distracted; for instance, when you are getting out of your car, you might be putting your cellphone or keys in your bag, and when your attention could be divided. Honeydew CPF communications officer, Michael Steyn said, “We want to remind the pubic to be vigilant about their surroundings and people around them. These criminals target people who expect it the least.”
Steyn said when you walk to and from your car, don’t be occupied with your phone because that can be a distraction. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. “If something doesn’t feel right, walk into the nearest store,” he added.
When you get into your car, do not immediately check your phone. Ensure that you lock your door and rather check your messages later. Criminals use this time to take advantage of your drop in awareness and rob you.
