One shot dead in attempted armed robbery

The homeowner heard his dogs barking hysterically in the night and went outside to investigate further.

An attempted armed robbery on Valley Road, Muldersdrift on 1 June resulted in one fatality. According to the police report, the homeowner heard his dogs barking hysterically during the night and went outside to investigate further. It was then that four armed assailants allegedly opened fire as they tried to gain entry.

The homeowner’s family locked themselves inside the house upon hearing the shots, and this deterred the criminals. Muldersdrift community leader, Shenan Cochran said they ran away before they could steal anything. “It was a senseless shooting. The thugs snuck in under the electric fence and shot the victim in the head. We are grateful to the security companies that responded so swiftly, and to the CPF that was there to provide victim support.”

Muldersdrift Police communications officer, Sergeant Mulalo Ndou said the suspects had not been caught yet, but investigations into the case were ongoing. The police warn residents to never go outside when they hear noises or disturbances outside their houses. Instead, they should call the police or security companies for assistance.
