Quick responses help contain a raging fire

Fortunately due to the swift responses the fire was contained and only caused damage to the lapa area.

As most residents spend their time cozied up inside throughout the winter longing for the warm weather to return, we often run our homes in overdrive during cold weather.

The more time people spend indoors, the more the chances for a house fire to occur.

On Sunday, 30 May Panorama Residents Association (PRA) received a call from a resident at around 10am about a structure that was on fire in the Weltevreden Park area.

Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) members arrived at the scene first and immediately relayed information back to other responding services.

Within ten minutes of the first call, a Fire Ops SA vehicle arrived followed by a second and third. City of Joburg EMS also responded from Dobsonville with an engine and a skid unit.

“Well done to everyone who responded to this scene and the quick work that was done putting out the fire.

“If you stay in the PRA area then join, as this clearly shows how well and quick a response can get to you when needed in an emergency,” said PRA chairperson, Dave Baxter.
