Pedestrian left seriously injured after morning collision

A female pedestrian in her 60s was left seriously injured yesterday morning, June 10, after she was struck by a light motor vehicle near the Department of Home Affairs.

The West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) reported that they were called to the scene on Albertina Sisulu Road where two pedestrians had been struck by the vehicle. ER24, however, has only reported on one victim, saying that ER24 paramedics arrived on scene at approximately 06:12 where they found the seriously injured woman on the side of the road.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, explained that medics quickly assessed the woman and found that she had sustained fractures to her arm and leg, leaving her in a serious condition.

Paramedics did what they could to treat the woman and provided her with pain-relief medication before transporting her to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital for further care. “The driver of the vehicle, fortunately, escaped injury,” Russel continued.

WSRNW assisted with controlling the morning traffic until the scene was cleared. Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
