Meshing business education and music at the Rapapadi Market
The raging success of the event has spurred the hosts to hold another market on 26 June
In every sphere of life, leadership is the difference between unrealised dreams and lives fulfilled.
Pulling oneself up from the fringes of successes can be a lonely task so the clubbing together of ideas and energy can have exponential benefits. Coffee N Deep House have mixed the need for entrepreneurial savvy with the groove of a deep-house jam session to get the money-making juices flowing. Together with Bigboy Shaun, Tshepo Selepe and the crew they held a market day infused with sensual beats and the ka-ching of the cash register.

Traders with a wide range of wares set up with the intention of building what Bigboy Shaun calls the ‘multiplier effect’. “The aim of the event was to integrate entrepreneurship with entertainment while also getting people involved in the informal economy,” he explained. “The entrepreneurs who booked stalls were on their A-game in terms of presentation, promotion and pricing, and the DJs did a great job in entertaining the audience,” added Shaun.

In the same fashion they meticulously weave the frequencies on the turntables, the duo are digging into the economic minutia that stand in the way of their community’s financial success. “One of the biggest challenges is being exposed to their respective markets, and the ability to manage funds in a manner that’ll enable them to be in a position to scale up,” believes Shaun.
Additionally, he poses that entrepreneurship through necessity needs to be replaced with entrepreneurship as forethought. “Most of us venture into business because of unforeseen financial circumstances, therefore we should start from grassroots to groom young individuals to see entrepreneurship as a way to get ahead in life and sustain one’s ambitions. Entrepreneurship should be compulsory in learning institutions to promote a culture of entrepreneurship,” Shaun explained.

Economics need not be a daunting mesh of complex terms and elaborate graphs; it is the simple exchange of goods of value in a mutually beneficial transaction, amplified by the relevant ripple effects. The snowballing success created by the positive vibes of the market has prompted a repeat to be held on 26 June, raising another platform to mould business minds in an inventive setting.
