Retirement village residents vaccinated
Residents of Ruimsig retirement village recently received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
The large majority of residents at Ruimsig Retirement Village recently received their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Rene Pentz, who is on the village’s management committee said some of the residents who did not receive the Covid vaccine were either sick or simply did not want to be vaccinated.
The retirement village joins a number of retirement communities that have had their residents jabbed as part of the country’s second vaccination phase. Amarosa, Protea, Bushy Park and Jacaranda retirement village residents have also received their vaccinations in the Region C area.
Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott said, “The elderly are among the most at-risk groups in the current pandemic, and while vaccinations are not managed at City level, it is important that their interests are championed through their elected representative.”
Rene said while they wait for their second dose, residents at the retirement village have been perfectly fine, except for some muscle pain shortly after the jab. Leah encouraged all retirement village and old age home residents to contact their ward councillors for assistance with vaccination drives. “We need to make sure that everyone is vaccinated as soon as possible to prevent further illness and death from Covid-19,” she said, adding that they have residents of six more retirement villages to vaccinate in Region C.
