The Muldersrift Fire Protection Association (FPA) unit recently assisting Friends Of Rescued Animals (FORA) with their fire breaks in accordance with the National Veld and Forest Fire Act 101 of 1998. Armed with fire beaters, the unit burnt fire breaks around all surrounding areas to ensure that none of the neighbouring properties would be affected in case of a fire.
According to Shenan Cochrane, spokesperson for the FPA, fire breaks prevent veld fires from spreading out of control, and protect crops, livestock and buildings. Fire breaks are also intended to allow access for firefighting vehicles. Cochrane said they were joined by Muldersdrift Cares dog and cat outreach as FORA gets ready to move to new premises.
“The organisation does outstanding work and we were more than happy to assist them. We had everyone armed with fire beaters and although it was a long and hot day, we thankfully completed all the work without any incidents.”
FORA is currently seeking assistance with fencing, security and alarms, and some building materials as they get ready to move to their new premises in Tarlton.
