While honest residents toil away in offices and workshops, some covet the unguarded homes.
Information is sought by a New Street resident who was burgled on Friday, July 2. Video footage from a neighbour’s security camera shows the occupants of a faded-blue Toyota Cressida, some on foot, making off with several valuables just before 15:00. Among their haul were two large flat screen televisions, gaming consoles, two off-road motorbikes, and personal items totalling several tens of thousands of rands.
Clint Nortje was at work when the thieves went about their weekend party-funding activities. He believes they had been planning this for some time. On a chance encounter driving past his home while test-driving a freshly repaired vehicle, Clint noticed the suspects outside his home with the same vehicle and a motorbike trailer. “This was two weeks ago. I asked them what they were doing outside my house and they told me they were here to see my son,” recalled Clint.
The excuse could only have been a fabrication as Clint’s son was away on business and he did not know the visitors. The incident has been reported to Florida Police and should anyone have any information on the Toyota Cressida, which has reportedly been seen in Roodepoort and Krugersdorp, they are asked to contact the station as soon as possible. Alternatively, information can be shared with Clint directly on 076 686 7925.
