Several staff members at Charter College received their vaccine on June 24. Last week, the Department of Basic Education announced that teachers across the country would be getting vaccinated in response to the virus’ impact on schooling.
Isabel Fourie said getting the vaccine has made her feel more comfortable and secure. “My daughter had Covid with barely any symptoms, no fever at all. I therefore believe that some students could be asymptomatic and it could affect older teachers like me,” the Charter College teacher revealed. She said making older students such as matrics high priority would go towards reducing the stress around the virus and focusing on exams without delay.

It is expected that during the current phase more than 120 000 teachers in the Gauteng province will be vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga said they hope to complete the process by July 8.
