With each wave that breaks the barriers that shield the public prove their infinite worth.
Feeling the plight of the nation’s medical staff, Laerskool Roodebeeck Primary compiled a touching tribute to the men and women who walk the corridors of our hospitals. The school put together a nine-minute video chronicling the early days of the global health panic and their recent project to bring cheer and an impassioned thank you to healthcare workers.
The heart of the project is a banner made up of multiple tarps painted and decorated by each grade. The banner features a poem written by a staff member, which is also read aloud by Roodebeeck learners during the video. Parents contributed warm messages for the recipients, and Grade 7 learners put their stitching skills to good use, weaving the pieces of compassion into a tender whole.
“It was a collective effort,” said Principal Margaret Visser. “It sums up how we are all feeling at this moment. It is not about the school but showing out frontline workers what they mean to us. We love them, we support them and we care about them,” she added.
The banner, as well as hundreds of Bar-One chocolates donated by parents and learners, made their way around various vaccination sites and hospitals from Roodepoort to Randfontein. The coronavirus may be surging, but acts such as these show the community spirit is ready to outlast any pandemic.
