Here are Region C’s vaccination sites

However, those who have already contracted Covid-19 are urged to wait a minimum of 35 days after their symptoms have cleared.

The Delta variant causes more infections and spreads faster than earlier variants of Covid-19. It might cause more severe illness than previous strains in unvaccinated people.

Residents over the age of 35 are urged now more than ever to get vaccinated in order to help stop the spread of the virus.

“Vaccines continue to be highly effective at preventing hospitalisation and death, also against this variant. Fully vaccinated people with breakthrough infections from this variant appear to be infectious for a shorter period,” Region C Clinics Manager, Rose Legwale said.

However, those who have already contracted Covid-19 are urged to wait a minimum of 35 days after their symptoms have cleared, before they receive their vaccine. If a person is already Covid-19 positive, the vaccine won’t be effective since its purpose is to prevent severe illness.

People are advised to make sure they are not Covid-19 positive, and that’s why there is screening on site.

The five vaccination sites in Region C area:
• Witpoortjie Recreational Centre
• Zandspruit Shopping Centre
• Fleurhof Community Centre
• Roodepoort City Hall
• Discoverers Community Health Centre

The operating times are from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 16:00, depending on the availability of vaccines.

“We are very happy that the vaccination sites have been busy the past few weeks. We urge residents to get vaccinated and wear masks indoors in public spaces to reduce the spread of this variant,” Rose concluded.
